Bristol Free School

The largest Free School in England, delivered under the Partnership for Schools Academies Framework. The school was constructed within existing concrete framed buildings, historically used as government offices with the addition of a new steel framed multi use sports hall, drama and dance studio for school and public use. The school had been operating from one of the older buildings on the site which was converted into a new dining hall. Another building was refurbished to house the classrooms, laboratories and technology workshops and these were linked by a new resourcing area. Warehouses were demolished to make way for the new sports hall. Understanding the existing buildings was critical to the structural solutions and careful phasing was vital to minimise disruption to the school.

“The success of this challenging project, handed over on time, was the result of a real team effort. Integral were cooperative and flexible in their approach and actively engaged with other members of the design team and third parties.”

Mark Frohwein, Design Manager BAM Construction
