Scala Arts Centre
Worcester
The Scala Arts Centre is a careful restoration and refurbishment of the existing Scala cinema and Grade II listed Corn Exchange creating a vibrant new hub for performing arts to revitalise this area of the city.
This project showcases the wonderful possibilities when reusing existing under-used buildings. The 1920s Scala cinema building and main auditorium, only partially used for many years, will house a new 500 seat theatre; the Grade II listed Corn Exchange will house the theatre bar; and a new infill building on the site of the existing public toilets will accommodate the back of house areas.
Space is a premium throughout the buildings and with some clever structural engineering design, every millimetre is being utilised to safely get the most out of the existing structure.
