King’s Academy Binfield
An all through school serving 4 – 18 year olds, with a nursery and special educational needs provision, on a site which was once a golf course. The project was in response to the shortage of school places in the borough. The site is at the centre of the new Blue Mountain residential development which includes community facilities, public open space, recreation facilities and an area of Suitable Natural Greenspace (SANG). Designing the foundations and drainage had interesting challenges due to the ground conditions and water courses across the site. The new school buildings are concrete framed with a steel framed sports hall. The secondary and primary schools are linked to provide efficiencies in the use of catering facilities and a special needs centre.
