Alfred Gillett Trust Archive
Street
The refurbishment of the Grade II listed Alfred Gillett Trust buildings and design of a new archive building to BS5454 in the centre of Street. The archive is the holding collection of the footwear Clarks family. This is an extensive collection of all the major Clarks’ designs and a collection of older shoes dating back to Roman times and related artefacts such as photographs and marketing material. The existing archive facilities were not of a high enough quality to properly protect the collection and a new naturally conditioned archive was designed and built. Understanding the collection in terms of the different conditions required, how the spaces should be subdivided and exactly how the buildings would be used by staff and visitors was key to the project.
