Regal Theatre
Stowmarket
The sympathetic refurbishment of the iconic 1930s Regal Theatre has provided a modern entertainment venue with first class facilities for Stowmarket and the surrounding area. The project saw a reconfiguration of the main entrance to provide an enhanced ticketing and front of house experience. A new steel framed extension housing café, toilet facilities and a new double height space has improved the visitor experience. The design of two new cinema screens was driven by sight lines, acoustics and the emergency means of escape. The design maximises the floor area and limits disturbing the existing masonry structure. Asbestos was a challenge. We liaised with the design team and all parties were fully co-ordinated at the earliest stage so that the asbestos could be safely removed where necessary. The project was transformational in terms of the external appearance and the quality of the user experience.
“Integral Engineering Design have been absolutely invaluable to us in undertaking a major redevelopment of the Regal Theatre. Always approachable, constructive and helpful – they have gone the extra mile at every stage in helping us to deliver an outstanding project.”
David Blackburn, Town Clerk
