Tunbridge Wells

Tunbridge Wells has been a destination for recreation and leisure since the Restoration period and has a rich history as a theatre town. Integral designed stage 4 of the new 1200 seat theatre to provide the backstage capability and technical facilities required for large productions. It was designed for high quality and sophisticated touring shows to bring longer runs of their productions to the theatre. The new theatre was designed to support a large open auditorium with two tiers of circle seating cantilevering out to remove any columns from sightlines and act as a plenum for delivering cool air. The design of the building was a mixture of steel and concrete framing. The technical theatre servicing requirements included a flytower which had counter weights hanging from it equivalent to 30 family cars. BIM (3D modelling) was used to facilitate the complex coordination required between the design disciplines.
