New Sixth, Bath
The New Sixth is a collaboration between St Gregory’s Catholic College and St Mark’s Church of England School, supported by Bath and North East Somerset Council, to provide new sixth form provision for Bath. The two storey teaching block includes a learning resource centre, classrooms, laboratories and social spaces. The site is significant as it is located on the southern gateway into Bath. The new structure was required to be sustainable and due to the proximity of the site to the existing school and the need to minimise disruption, constructed as quickly and efficiently as possible. Solid timber construction was chosen with exposed solid timber internal walls, columns and beams and prefabricated insulated solid timber panels to the elevations.
