Celebrating 10 years in London

29 May 2024

A decade of hard work and success in the heart of London

This year we are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of our London office! A decade of hard work and success in the heart of London could not have been achieved without our amazing employees, clients and collaborators who have all been part of this incredible journey.

Establishing a presence in London was always part of the wider plan for Integral’s founding partner Tim Mander. Building on his network of contacts he rented a couple of desks above a pub on Great Sutton Street in 2013. Matthew Blaza joined the practice in 2014 to lead projects in London and grow the team and project portfolio in the city. In 2015 we took our first permanent office in Clerkenwell and have been there ever since.

“Growing the London office and the work we carry out here has been a joy for the past 10 years. Working with great people, seeing them flourish and deliver on interesting and varied projects has been truly inspiring. I look forward to seeing what the next ten years brings”.  Matthew Blaza, Associate

Our strength in the education sector provided the foundation for the London team to thrive and flourish in the early days with projects such as Kings Academy, Binfield, The Study Preparatory School, Wimbledon, Daphne Oram Creative Arts Building and Haberdashers’ Boys’ School. New build and refurbishment school and higher education projects continue to be an important area of our work. Creating stunning environments for learning and growth such as the new atrium with helical staircase connecting two very different buildings at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, is an honour and enjoyed by the whole team.

Our portfolio of theatre refurbishment projects has been built up and led by our team in London. The complex refurbishment of Bloomsbury Theatre for UCL which started in early 2016 gave us our first opportunity and since then we have had the privilege to enhance and breathe new life into Broadway Theatre Catford, Regal Theatre Stowmarket and Hertford Theatre to better meet the needs of their communities and the requirements of modern touring shows.

Integral were early adopters of CLT and now our London team is at the forefront of timber design, sharing their expertise and shaping the future with innovative CLT projects including the K:Port filling station design and Christies Care to the Creative Church Project at St Mary’s Walthamstow and the recently completed SciTech Centre at Haileybury.

Our team has a passion for heritage projects, embracing the challenges that come with historic buildings. Restoring and preserving both beloved and neglected Listed Buildings to their former glory or giving them a new lease on life is always a rewarding journey especially with projects such as Docking Station and Broadway Theatre, Catford among many others to work on.

So what does the next ten years hold for us?
Achieving low embodied carbon levels in buildings is crucial to reaching our net-zero goals. We recognise that this is a collective effort, and we look forward to collaborating with both new and established clients and design teams. Together, we can harness emerging initiatives and champion the reuse of buildings. Leading the way on Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) to enhance biodiversity as well as managing rainwater is also on our agenda.

We hope to play our part towards a more sustainable future in the construction industry and look forward to meeting new people along the way.
