Preview tour at the Apex City of Bath
11 July 2017
On Friday 7 July 2017, members of Women in Property (WiP) and Constructing Excellence (CE) networks met in the basement of the new Apex City of Bath Hotel.
The purpose was to enjoy a sneak preview of the building as it nears practical completion, opening to the public in August. The organiser of the event, Dawn Abercromby of Integral Engineering Design, welcomed everyone and Rachel Bell of WiP and Gerraint Oakley of Curo, representing CE, gave a few words of support. Tim O’ Sullivan, the General Manager of the Apex City of Bath Hotel, introduced the project from a client perspective and Integral Director Tim Mander outlined the engineering challenges and solutions.
The group separated into two. One group, led by Tim Mander, went straight up to the roof to catch the awesome views of the city and beyond (and the not so awesome views of the roof plant!) before descending. The other group, led by Claire Thomas, the Project Engineer, started in the spa complex in the basement and slowly made their way up. On show were the Lansdown Suite (a 400 seater conference space), seminar rooms and breakout space under the glazed atrium roof and fully fitted out show bedrooms, some with external terraces.
The visit generated quite a buzz over coffee and refreshments. Of course the best bit was finding out about Oliver the duck, the Apex Hotel’s mascot, and how he came to get his name!
