Volunteering for the Scouts Pioneering Badge
In the week that it was announced that there are 50,000 young people on the Scouts waiting list we spent last Thursday evening lending our expertise to the 21st Larkhall Bath Scout Group.
With a two hour deadline the young people, aged between 10 – 13 years, were tasked with building a bridge that would support their own weight. With my colleagues Kim and Chris, we immediately started teaching knots and helping to bring the structure together. The scouts took up the challenge and a series of timber posts were soon tightly lashed together in place. The evening ended with the safe crossing of every participant including the scout leader! The future of engineering is bright and we can see why the Scouts Association is so popular.
